High court quashes Chandigarh Police rule splitting constable promotions into categories

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has set aside the June 18, 2021 notification amending Rule 13.7 of the Punjab Police Rules, 1934, which provided for promotion of constables to the post of head constables through three categories — 70 per cent on seniority-cum-merit, 25 per cent through the “B-1” Test and 5 per cent from outstanding sportspersons according to their date of appointment.
