“I was raped by an adult cousin when I was five during the summer holidays.” This is how Mié Kohiyama, a 52-year-old child rights activist and co-founder of the Brave Movement, a campaign to end childhood sexual violence, describes the violent moment that changed her life. For 32 years she told no one. Her brain repressed the memory – a documented reaction to trauma.
