Why So Few International Students in Korea Reach Permanent Residency

Kizzy in Korea (@beautifulinsoul) posted a video this month breaking down what she calls the broken pathway from international student to permanent resident in Korea, built on a personal project analyzing national immigration statistics from 2020 to 2025. Her headline finding: out of every 100,000 students who start down the standard route, only about 30 make it all the way to permanent residency, a rate of 0.03 percent. She lays out the official pipeline as D-2 (student visa) to E-7 (employment visa) to F-2 (points-based residency) to F-5 (permanent residency), a path that takes a minimum of nine years even when everything goes right.
