When a French commander revolted, joined Nawab’s army

Rene-Marie Madec was a French commander of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah, the third ruler of Awadh and had about 1,500 soldiers under him. Interestingly, he joined the Nawab’s army just before the Battle of Buxar on the recommendation of Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Gentil who had joined Nawab’s service in 1763.
