West Metro’s passenger numbers up to 25% higher than anticipated

A technical failure caused severe congestions at a number of stations in Helsinki Metro, including Matinkylä, on Tuesday, 9 January, 2018. An estimated 75,000 people a day have boarded trains at the eight new stations added to Helsinki Metro in November, reveals Tero Anttila, the head of public transport planning at Helsinki Region Transport (HSL). He predicts that the daily number of boardings on the western extension of the metro network will creep up to 80,000 later this week.
