Somalia: The new Penal Code risks further criminalising journalism under the guise of reform

Somalia’s Federal Parliament is preparing to examine a draft Penal Code intended to replace legislation that is more than 60 years old. As it currently stands, several provisions of the bill risk seriously undermining press freedom and the right to information.
