Shaping markets for health: How the Global Fund plans to secure affordable health products for the future

In February 2026, the Global Fund Secretariat informed its Board of a new strategy to obtain better medical supplies for countries. The organization uses its clout as a large purchaser to negotiate lower prices and expedite access to new interventions. With many countries now purchasing more of their own medicines, the Fund zeroes in on four areas: rapidly taking new products to people, including assisting countries to pool their purchases and negotiating reduced prices; ensuring supply continuity; and enabling countries to use the Global Fund's pooled procurement mechanisms with their own funds. | GFO Aidspan
