Serbia's president criticizes UN court for not releasing war criminal Mladic to die at home

Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic has accused a U.N. court of “uncivilized behavior” for denying early release to former Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic. Mladic died in custody in the Netherlands on Thursday. The U.N. tribunal sentenced him to life in prison in 2017 for war crimes during the Yugoslav wars. Bosnian Serbs held vigils for Mladic, whom they consider a hero. Victims' families expressed relief that he died in prison. The court cited Mladic's medical care and family visits as reasons for denying his release. An inquiry into his death is now open.
