Proposal Seeks Extension of Mon Language Teaching to Grade 5 in Parliament

A proposal to extend Mon language teaching in primary-level basic education schools across Mon State up to Grade 5 was submitted on the first day of the parliament session on June 9 by U San Tin, a representative of Paung Township Constituency No. 2. Supporters of the proposal said teaching the Mon language only up to Grade 3 is not sufficient for students to become fully proficient. They argued that extending the program to Grade 5 would help students learn the language more effectively.
