Philippine police on alert as protests commemorate martial law

MANILA: More than 17,000 police officers have been deployed since Saturday night (Sept 19) for the 54th commemoration of martial law on Monday, as multisectoral groups plan to march on the streets to mark an episode more than half a century ago that continues to influence the country's political life.
