Pastry chef brings baking school to immigrants in Hamtramck

An Illinois native, Slevin does not have familial ties to the Detroit area and for the better part of her adult life, she’d been building her career as a baker in Portland, Maine. But nearly three years ago, she says it was placed on her heart to move to the Detroit area — sight unseen. And as she’s learned over the years, when God calls, she listens.
