Pacific Sovereignty being undermined by deep-sea mining and investor agreements, says PANG report

Suva, Fiji: Deep-sea mining is increasingly exposing Pacific governments to secretive foreign tribunals that have been used to challenge and overrule government action on climate change and environmental protection in many other countries, according to a new report released today by the Pacific Network on Globalisation (PANG). It says Tonga faces a worrying exposure through its ISDS commitments, "this creates enormous liability for Tonga regarding its current trajectory on deep-sea mining.”
