The Northern Territory has become the final Australian jurisdiction to pass a voluntary assisted dying law, 30 years after being the first to pioneer it. The law passed late on Thursday night after hours of debate. But some terminally ill people, and some whose family members have used it in other states, are disappointed the law has been passed with tight restrictions. People will not be able to use the law unless they have a 12-month terminal illness prognosis, and doctors will not be able to initiate conversations with patients about voluntary assisted dying.
