New report predicts smartphone shipments will drop 14% in 2026

The global smartphone market is on track for its worst year in over a decade, according to a new report. Research firm Counterpoint says smartphone shipments will fall about 14% in 2026 compared to last year. That would bring the total down to roughly 1.07 billion phones sold worldwide, the lowest number since 2013. The firm expects things to stay rough into 2027 before a stronger recovery in 2028.
