Most memorable new restaurants of 2022

For the past two years, my annual task of ranking Calgary’s best new restaurants has been fairly simple – if anything, it was a struggle to find more than 10 newly opened restaurants that would reasonably deserve to be on a “best of” list in a normal year. But 2022 was not only “back to normal” in terms of openings; the city was offered an embarrassment of riches when it comes to new restaurants, with eateries of every description putting out some extraordinary things to eat. That said, if there’s any official restaurant word for 2022, in Calgary it’s probably “Italian” – if there ever was a time to eat plate after plate of pasta, apparently…
