Matthews Beach reopens after record-breaking bacteria levels led to mid-August closures

Matthews Beach in North Seattle was closed on Aug. 11 due to record-high bacteria levels in the water. Two tests of the beach last week showed E. coli was present at 100 times and 80 times the safe limit — the highest levels recorded since 2019.
