Lynn Smith: A place called home

This month I planned to write about racial inequity, or legal immigration, or infrastructure spending, or budget deficits, and had almost finished a particularly vitriolic column titled, "Just Blame Newt." But on one particularly beautiful morning, while walking downtown with one particularly wonderful friend, I mentally scrapped all my work-in-progress and decided to write what was in my heart.
