Jaiñtia: A Name for All

The Jaiñtia Hills is a gently rolling landscape of forested hills and river valleys that slopes southwards towards Bangladesh, with a small portion extending northwards into Assam. It lies on the eastern portion of the Shillong Plateau, an upthrust formed by the collision of the Indian and Asian tectonic plates, making the area geologically unique. It lies between 25°02′ and 25°45′ N latitude and 91°59′ and 92°50′ E longitude. It is bounded by Assam to the east and north, the East Khasi Hills District to the west, and Bangladesh to the south.
