Heat death and the grammar of endings

Every civilization that has looked up at the sky has also asked, in one form or another, how the story ends. Physics answers with heat death: the slow, silent flattening of every temperature difference in the universe until no work, no motion, and no light remain possible. Religion answers with judgment, resurrection, or dissolution, where an ending is rarely just an ending, but a hinge into something else.
