One hundred years ago, on 31 July 1926, Alajos Hauszmann died. Born in Buda to a family of German roots and educated, among other places, at Berlin’s Bauakademie, he shaped Budapest during the great period of urban expansion more profoundly than almost any other architect – as the designer of monumental government buildings, the architect of the Royal Palace and the famous New York Palace as well as the teacher of several generations of architects.
