Harnessing Solar Energy for Efficient, Collective, and Farmer-Led Irrigation in Egypt

ICARDA and Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation are demonstrating solar-powered collective irrigation systems that combine renewable energy, efficient infrastructure, and farmer-led water management. The model can save 30% of irrigation water, reduce reliance on diesel, lower pumping costs, and strengthen local management of shared irrigation systems across Egypt.
