Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Air Traffic Nearly Back to Pre-Corona Levels

The greenhouse gas emissions from air traffic are approaching pre-pandemic levels. According to the mobility organization VCÖ, 2.97 million tons of greenhouse gases were emitted by air traffic last year, which represents an increase of eleven percent compared to 2023. In 2019, the previous peak was 2.99 million tons. The VCÖ advocates for the introduction of a kerosene tax and an expansion of rail traffic.
