DR Congo and M23 Rebels Agree on Peace Roadmap

The deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo government and the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group includes a mechanism to monitor ceasefire violations, and sets timelines for negotiations under a 2025 US-brokered peace framework. However, disagreements remain over sanctions, detainees and political reforms. M23, the government of DR Congo, Qatar, the US, the Republic of Togo, the African Union Commission and host Switzerland attended the latest negotiations. Fighting has continued in eastern DR Congo despite previous ceasefire commitments, with the conflict having killed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
