Former Defense Minister Boyko Noev has warned that Bulgaria has systematically underestimated the threat to its security since Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the start of the war in Ukraine, arguing that the country remains poorly prepared to defend its airspace against low-flying drones and has failed to properly investigate a series of explosions targeting its military industry. Noev, a diplomat and national security expert who served twice as defense minister, said Bulgaria’s main external kinetic threat could come from the east, particularly from drones.
