Booze for breakfast – damning report exposes MPs
The Institute of Alcohol Studies is the first study to systematically survey MPs and parliamentary staff about their experiences of alcohol at work. MPs and their staff report being offered wine at breakfast meetings and struggling to find a soft drink at some parliamentary events, as one in ten Westminster workers reveal they've been harmed by a colleague's drinking. The shocking research has prompted calls for a formal parliamentary policy on alcohol, which reveals how Westminster operates completely differently to any other workplace in Britain. The Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS) is the first study to systematically survey MPs and parliamentary staff about their experiences of alcohol at work, combining a survey of 191 MPs and staff with 22 in-depth interviews conducted over the course of a year.
