Tooro succession and coronation have never rested on a single institution. They move along two distinct but coordinated tracks. The first is cultural and clan-based: the identification, vetting, and confirmation of the rightful successor by the Babiito royal clan, guided by the Musuuga as traditional head of the clan, and accompanied by rites such as the presentation of royal spears and drums, traditionally performed by the Basiita clan under their head, the Omujaguzi. This track determines who becomes king and rests entirely on custom, lineage, and clan authority.
