Basic tyre safety tips for UK drivers after 5,662 convictions for defective tyres in 2025 - Blackcircles
Provisional Criminal Justice System statistics in the UK showed 5,662 convictions for defective tyres were recorded in 2025. While this is considerably down on the five-year average of 6,364 per year, the number highlights another risk that drivers take when they fail to ensure their tyres meet safety requirements. Overall, more than 2 million MOT failures occur annually because of tyre defects. It is also suggested that half or more of these are classified as dangerous. Tyres are also the primary cause of MOT failures in the first seven years of a vehicle’s life, according to the DVSA.
