Baranyai: Judging women by appearance persists

Agnes Macphail stepped into the public eye in 1921 as Canada’s first female Member of Parliament. She was a progressive with big ideas and a sharp wit. In the press, she was alternately berated for frequently wearing the same serviceable blue dress, or skewered for trying on something fashionable.
