Athens Area Humane Society Expands Full Bellies Food Bowl Program

Financial hardships put strains on an entire household—even down to its smallest, furriest members—and can cause families to make really difficult decisions, like surrender their pets to already overcrowded animal shelters. In an effort to prevent surrenders and keep wanted pets with their families, the Athens Area Humane Society (AAHS) runs the Full Bellies Food Bowl program. On the first and third Saturday of every month, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m., AAHS on Mitchell Bridge Road hosts a community pantry event to distribute dog and cat food to those in need.
