A multipurpose space in a multicultural place

Joining Greek life, for those in it, is a means of fitting into a community. There are other reasons, of course, but by and large one’s fraternity or sorority offers a space where you (I hope) know everyone and feel comfortable. At a resource-rich institution like Columbia, where student organizations can range from broad umbrella groups for identities that exist across intersections (think Student Organization of Latinos, Black Students’ Organization, Asian American Alliance, etc.) to organizations built around those intersections (Mujeres for Latinas and Latinxs, Proud Colors for queer people of color, etc.), I didn’t think I would want to…
